I have been looking around for a 1080p TV for a long time to upgrade my room and I finally came to buy this TV and I would never look back. I wanted a TV good for gaming, has great picture clarity, and of course good HD playback whether it be Blu-Ray or HD channels on cable. This TV has lived up to all of my expectations that I had for it except for one problem. The 240Hz "TruMotion" even when on low has some distorting effect on moving background images. Usually nothing that takes a lot away from the overall picture and nothing that lasts more than a couple seconds but I always seem to find those things. I am convinced it is the 240Hz considering I have watched the same movies on 120Hz 1080p LED TV and there was only very slight distortions. When playing a Blu-Ray on 1080p, it is less noticeable than if you where watching HBO HD or some other Cable TV HD channel.

Picture clarity and brightness are phenomenal! We have the Samsung 55" LED set downstairs and when I compared it almost looked like this LG was brighter and was more clear when playing a Blu-Ray disc, or playing a PS3 game. Sound quality is very good of built in speakers. Usually I can't let it go over 40 otherwise it is too loud when comparing it to the Samsung, sometimes we need to put the volume all the way up to 85-90.

Overall I am very happy with this TV for the price that I paid for it, I just bought a new Blu Ray player to replace my Samsung P1500, I will be hooking up a Panasonic DMP-DB85K later this week to see if it will make any difference in Blu-Ray clarity. So far the best movie that I have watched on this TV picture-wise is District 9... watched that yesterday and WOW it was an amazingly clear, crisp and bright picture.

If you are looking for a closer to budget priced 1080p LED TV this would be the TV you should consider.

2 days ago I hooked up my Panasonic DMP-DB85K Blu Ray player and I will say there is a a slight difference over my older Samsung model. I went through the settings on the DVD player and turned on the 24p setting (plays the dvd at 24 frames per second which is what movies are recorded in) and there was a good difference in playback.

I also played around with some settings in the picture menu, about the distortion about black edges/images... I turned the "Black Level" setting to High and I keep TruMotion 240hz to Low and I notice that there is less distortion on Blu Ray play back. I will continue to play around with some settings and see if there can be any more changes I can make.

I've owned this TV for a week now. I haven't experimented with white scrolling text to look for the blooming and I almost don't want to. After working with multimedia encoding and 3D graphics, I've discovered that ignorance is sometimes bliss. Once you notice something, you can't stop yourself from seeing it all the time (like macro blocks from MPEG compression, motion "judder,", etc.).

I'll also agree with other reviewers that you really need to play with the advanced menus in order to tune the picture. "Vivid" and "standard" are nice for cartoons and anime but are too over-the-top for anything else. The auto-adjusting setting is a nice idea but in practice is annoying because it pops up a logo to tell you it is adjusting the picture. I was watching one night and every time I turned a table lamp on or off, the picture would adjust (which would be fine if it didn't annoy me with an on-screen logo to tell me about it).

This TV is no Samsung (LED). I can definitely tell the difference in the local showroom and the Samsungs are very svelte. But for this price, I don't think you can find anything comparable. The LED backlighting definitely increases the visible contrast; you'll see blacks that you just won't see on a non-LED LCD. I haven't seen the blooming or LED "popping" that other reviewers have mentioned, but even if I turn off the dynamic lighting, the LED still gives me brighter lighting, less heat and (theoretically) longer life and greater reliability. Plus, I get bragging rights for a while. "Check it out; the very latest in big screen HD tech!"

Speaking of bragging rights, all of my friends have commented about how wonderful this TV display looks, even people who have bought Samsungs and Bravias in the past year. Considering that I bought this TV at a price that was the same as the non-LED Samsungs, I'm quite happy. All the technical negatives noted about this TV are probably spot on, but for the price, I don't think I could have done nearly as well with any other TV. I bought this TV as sort of a memorial to my brother who died just this past Christmas. He was very into big screen TVs and the latest tech. I think he'd be happy to see his nephew watching Bakugan in HD glory.

This is a really nice TV. I love the crisp, clean picture quality that the matte screen provides. The TV is also quite attractive and classy looking when off. In spite of buying the MediaBridge high speed HDMI cables (v. 1.3b), here on Amazon, we still noticed some lip sync issues when watching TV from our Dish Network programming. Some channels were worse than others (HGTV seemed quite noticeable as well as SYFY). DVD's on blue ray player were fine. Thanks to a CNet user review by PB G4 dated December 1, 2009, I had a clue where to go looking to resolve my lip sync issue. We have a Dish Network HD VIP222k receiver.

Here's what worked for us: Using the Dish receiver remote, press

, , . Mine was set to "Dolby Digital/PCM". Change it to "PCM ONLY". (I left it at RF mode). Then press , to exit. Thats it- no more lip sync issues! The problem was with the TV programming provider NOT the beautiful LG TV itself. By the way, I too did not like the phony movement (kind of looked like slow motion, blurred effect) of the dejudder effect. Picture movement was much better with it turned off. To do this, use your LG TV remote press MENU, go to PICTURE, go to your selected display mode and scroll down until you get to ADVANCED CONTROL, press select. In ADVANCED CONTROL scroll over and down to TRUMOTION 240HZ. Select it and turn it OFF. This will give more natural looking movement. We're still tweeking our settings but little-by-little the tv gets better and better with the already great picture.

By the way, apparently LG is no longer making this TV and will be coming out with newer models. Its a great TV and I wouldn't hesitate to get one while you can. It will probably get hard to find a fully backlit LED with local-dimming since most are going to the thin side-lit LED screens. I've seen the best price in-house at Fry's Electronics (California/Bay Area/Sacramento) for ,199 and the 55LH90 as low as ,799. However, the price doesn't go this low on their website. I actually bought mine from a local video store (VIDEO ONLY- great store and customer service) who has a price-beating policy. At that great price, they could only beat it by a few bucks, but I wanted to give business to the smaller, local guy.) They no longer have any in stock since the model is discontinued, but you can still get some at some FRY's locations. This week the 47LH90 is back on sale for ,199 if you can find them in stock.

Also, FYI, we did call LG customer support on a couple of occasions. They did answer the phone, spoke English fine (seemed to be in the US), and tried to help. In one instance we had a tech come out within 24 hrs. Pretty impressive quick response. He also commented that of the various brands he services, LG provides the best customer service and seems the most committed to ensuring the customer issue gets resolved. While not perfect, LGs service may be the best out there (surprisingly to me, there were some not so good reports about SONY).
