Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black Review

I own a number of HDTVs (1 Olevia, 4 Samsungs, 1 LG, and 2 Toshibas) and finally decided to get this one instead of a more expensive Samsung model. I waited until the price dipped under 1300 with free delivery, and couldn't be happier. The glossiness of the screen does not bother me, but I can see how some people might find it objectionable (especially if they are used to the nice matte Samsung screens). I did a lot of research online and found some erroneous information out there; for instance, some reviews indicate that this set has a swinging stand. It does not. Another thing you should be aware of is that there is an audio issue out there with this series of HDTVs, where the audio gets garbled up and echo-like when it is being fed through an HDMI cable after a couple of hours. I never use this particular setup (anytime HDMI is used I pump the audio through a sound system and not the internal speakers), but a lot of people do have this problem as seen in AVSFORUMS. AS of the writing of this review, Toshiba has released a firmware update that apparently fixed the issue, but it has not posted it online and can only be obtained if you call them to complain about this issue, in which case they send you a 2 GB flash drive with the firmware update. People who have applied the update report that the audio issue has not come back after 10 days of use. Other than this issue, this HDTV is an amazing value after being properly calibrated. Hope this review helps.

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46SV670U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46SV670U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black Review

After sniffing out specs on new HDTVs we went to the store to try to compare screens (mostly between the Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia, and Samsung - in that order.) In the end we decided this one had the best overall brightness and clarity. (This wasn't so easy to determine though because all of the stores feed crappy (relatively), and varying signals into the TVs so that it is difficult if not impossible to compare them. Why? I don't know.)

After using this TV for a month, I'm still very happy with it. Compare that to my experience with our previous HDTV, a DLP type Samsung. This TV starts fast (relatively) and the sound is good even from the built-in speakers. I'm much, much happier with the screen and general response time. Switching channels, turning on, turning off; these may sound like no-brainers but the Samsung DLP would sometimes take over a minute to start, almost as long shutting off, and even took tens of seconds on occasion to switch channels. Also this TV uses about 50% less power than the DLP and was about as low-power as anything in this size of TV we found (because of the LED backlighting it uses less lighting power.)

The main flaw with the Samsung came when it failed completely (green screen of death) after only a little more than two years of use. The problem appeared to be on the board that controls TV signal decoding. Because that problem is possible with any display tech, I'll just have to wait and see if this TV turns out to be more reliable/long lasting. For now it is an order of magnitude improvement over the Samsung DLP, and appeared to have better image quality than the current competition.

Some drawbacks that keep it from perfect scores:
1) There is a border around the screen several inches wide. Obviously the closer to edge-to-edge screen the better since the rest is just distracting away from the image.
2) (a complete surprise!) there is only one coaxial input on the TV. We have been using analog cable and HD over the antennae (airwave broadcast) for years. With this TV, it took us a while to figure out that we could still do this by buying a coaxial switch. Unfortunately that means that to switch from Antennae to Cable requires flipping the manual switch and then changing a setting from the remote control menu. This is tiresome so we have all but abandoned the cable channels completely (on this TV anyway.)

Non-issues: some complain that this TV is too thick (mostly compared to the Samsung model.) We don't wall mount, so for us this is a complete non-issue as you can't tell how thin it is in the entertainment stand. I suppose others might prefer the svelte look of the Samsung but there is something to be said about people who would buy a TV for the look of the case over the look of the TV image it produces (and the reliability of the product too given my previous experience with Samsung TVs.)

Toshiba REGZA 47ZV650U 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black Review

I did a lot of research before making this purchase, looking at other Toshiba models as well as other brands and spec wise, this set had all the others beat hands down! This purchase has been a great experience from the purchase price to the free delivery and most importantly the performance of the set. The sound on this set was much better than expected and I should have rated that a five as well, because you can't expect theater sound from such small speakers. Everyone knows that you need to use a surround sound amp to experience theater like sound and still people harp on the sound of these sets (duh). I consider myself very particular when making such purchases and always try to strike a balance between cost vs quality. I believe this set is by far the best of the entry level 120hz/240 clear scan set out there and competes admirably with the full blown 240hz as well as led back lit sets. There have been some interesting somewhat negative reviews on this set, but honestly unless these folks received a lemon, I think they are simply suffering from buyers remorse and most likely would complain if hung with a new rope. Oh and lets not forget the reported lack of deep blacks on this set and other lower priced sets... well I can't speak for the others, but the blacks are just fine on this set so go ahead and spend ,000 to ,500 dollars more and see if you can tell the difference. And finally lest we forget the off angle viewing which is said to be poor unless you spend an additional ,000 dollars... well I have gone from side to side until all I see is the back of the set and there is no loss in quality as long as you can see the screen. And last but not least glare on the shiny screen that Toshiba chose to use on this set. My viewing room has windows on three sides and yes there is some reflection on the screen from the windows at times and guess what?... I draw the drapes when watching a program that is in high definition so I get all the detail and the glossy screen adds contrast, but when watching the news who cares? I hope this helps sort through some of the reviews as some seem to rate the product a five just because it arrived and still others give poor ratings because they are in a bad mood I guess.

Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black Review

Let me be the first to say that I am not a techie. I am not an HDTV expert. I am a value-conscience consumer who was looking for a 42" HDTV for my living room.

I was looking for at least 120Mhz, 3 HDMI connections, a TV that could hold its own in a well-lit room, and something that was easy to configure.

After researching TVs for days on end, I had narrowed it down to a Samsung, LG and Toshiba. I then happened to have a hotel stay in a room with a 42" LG HDTV -- I was far from impressed, so I crossed that one off of the list. When I came across a listing for the Toshiba Regza through Amazon.com for 9, I decided to pull the trigger.

I have been impressed so far. Set up was a breeze and the user menu options are intuitive enough that I was able to play around with the settings to get a picture that I am happy with. The thing I notice most is that the colors just jump out at you (I have a 32" Vizio HDTV previously). For the first few days, it was somewhat disorienting how crisp and clear the picture was. Watching any HDTV footage - sports, movies, anything, it has been a great picture.

Its not a true 240hz, but rather 120hz coupled with Toshiba's proprietary "MotionFlow" technology. I have seen no lag time in the picture, no interference, no clutter in the picture.

All in all, I am a satisfied customer.

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black Review

I consider myself a tech savvy. I've been following consumer TV lineups and technology for months. from samsung to vizio, yes I checked them all out! This Toshiba does it the best in its class with solid picture quality and performance. if you are looking for an eye candy go get a samsung, but if you want performance in all aspects then this TV is for you.

I bought this set from amazon and had it for about 2 weeks now. The picture is amazing and the blacks are inky, deepest I've seen around! video processing is outstanding, handles motion really well. This LED TV delivers a great cinema-like experience.

Pros:

-Stylish single glass design
-Deepest inky blacks - Kuro like
-superior video processing - nicely removes judder and blur without adding video-game look
-amazing screen uniformity
-packed with pro-settings and tweaking menus, graphs, ambient light sensor and auto brightness feature
-Local dimming in its best
-no blooming, clouding, ghosting or flashing issues (known issues with LCDs)
-details in gray-black tones visible
-great value

cons:

-reflective screen (helps to achieve better contrast but could be an issue if you have a lot of windows)
-heavy

I'm very happy I returned my samsung LED for this unit. samsung LEDs (6000, 7000 and 8000 series) suffer from screen uniformity issues!
Buy this unit and you won't be sorry.
