VIZIO VF552XVT 55-Inch Class XVT Series TRULED 240Hz sps LED LCD VIZIO Internet Apps HDTV

VIZIO VF552XVT 55-Inch Class XVT Series TRULED 240Hz sps LED LCD VIZIO Internet Apps HDTV Review

OMG, I feel like an ameba that has just crawled onto land for the first time. My last television purchase was 13 years ago, a very nice 56" rear projection TV. I had resurrected this monster 2 times, but not a 3rd.

This Visio has been great, the colors are crisp and clear and the picture just perfect. My only complaint is the black is a little too dark, but just something I need to get use to. I easily connected to the Internet to download a movie the first night from Amazon video on-demand, no problems at all.

I was a little nervous at first with all this technology, I know how bad things can go with technology. I watched more TV last weekend then I have in years. I was even watching HD Theater, not for the lame programming, but the unbelievable landscape scenes.

I also play a lot of video games, and I have to say there are many games that I am planning on playing again for the first time. There is hardly a difference between the cut scenes and the game scenes.

Probably like most of you, I did a lot of research online, settling for this one. The price is very good for the features and I found the reviews very helpful. I had no problem setting this unit up, I had read the owners manual online, but found it not really necessary. This TV is incredible. Even my 23 year old son has crawled up from his basement abode to watch MY TV.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Sony Bravia Z Series KLV-40ZX1M 40-Inch 1080p LED Monitor

Sony Bravia Z Series KLV-40ZX1M 40-Inch 1080p LED Monitor Review

I have read the CNET review where it dogs on this tv for the edge-lit technology and says for 00.00, it should provide a more uniform viewing experience. But honestly, I think they were nitpicking based on the pricepoint. True, for 00.00 I'd want MAJOR bang for my buck! But what about for 00.00???
I write this review to you now on my own KLV-40ZX1M and I tell you 00.00 is what I spent this last weekend to buy this tv direct from the Sony store. My guess is that a price change is due on this tv and I would check back here for pricing below 00.00.
I'm telling you. . . At this pricepoint, there isn't another television out there that can touch it! This TV is amazing! Err, monitor. . . I forgot it only has one HDMI input, but Sony is now including DMX-SW1 HDMI switcher with purchase. Bravo Sony!!! Amazing product!!!

Sony Bravia Z Series KLV-40ZX1M 40-Inch 1080p LED Monitor Feature

  • 9.9 mm thin super-slim design
  • 16:9 Full HD 1080p Resolution Panel (1920x1080)
  • Wide Color Gamut LED edge lighting with 120Hz Motionflow technology
  • BRAVIA Engine fully digital video processor
  • Monitor only (no tuner) with 1 HDMI input

Sony Bravia Z Series KLV-40ZX1M 40-Inch 1080p LED Monitor Overview

Sony's thinnest 40" diagonal monitor includes the performance and Full HD 1080p resolution of BRAVIA Z-Series HDTVs, the revolutionary Sony BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M LCD Flat Panel Monitor lets you see the world from a whole new angle. At 9.9 mm thin and approximately 26 pounds, the KLV-40ZX1M is flatter than any other large-screen monitor available, approaching the thinness of the 11" (diagonal) Sony XEL-1 Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TV. Sony offers beautiful design inside and out by incorporating a Wide Color Gamut LED edge light instead of conventional fluorescent lamps, which allows the KLV-40ZX1M to produce rich, more realistic images on a screen as slim as a picture frame. The KLV-40ZX1M not only displays more subtle shades of red, green, and blue but also features Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) technology for deeper blacks and better image detail when viewing dark movie scenes. It includes enhanced image processing features such as BRAVIA Engine -- which reduces visual noise and sharpens image detail -- and Motionflow 120Hz, a technology that contributes to sharper, more fluid motion by generating extra frames. Additionally, 10-bit processing and a 10-bit panel, Live Color Creation, and x.v.Color capabilities1 create vibrant, more accurate color reproduction. The KLV-40ZX1M also includes an HDMI input that, when used with the BRAVIA Wireless Link module (sold separately), allows you to connect a DVD player, AV gear, or other HDMI components for wireless, real-time transmission of these super-sharp images. A new wall-hugging mount and matching speaker bar (both sold separately) further enhance the fully integrated, on-the-wall design of the KLV-40ZX1M.

VIZIO SV472XVT 47-Inch Class XVT Series TRULED 240Hz sps LED LCD VIZIO Internet Apps HDTV

VIZIO SV472XVT 47-Inch Class XVT Series TRULED 240Hz sps LED LCD VIZIO Internet Apps HDTV Review

I received this item around the last week of March 2010 and decided to postpone submitting my comments about this HDTV until my excitement wore off. The verdict........ Very GOOD!

Let's start w/ the packaging. Vizo, I think has the coolest packaging I've seen to date. The box the TV came in is so colorful plus it advertises all the cool neat features you will find on the HDTV that's inside. There is also these (4) neat little plastic clips on the base of the box that you simply squeeze and pull out. This allows the end user to lift the outer carton up and off the base of the carton to reveal the foam protected TV that's covered in clear plastic. Now that's what I call making an impressive introduction!

To be honest the TV styling is very bland and the silver piece is kinda cheesy. I would have loved to have seen this TV with the Vizio "Java" styled bezel but in a solid black color instead of the brown (Now that would have been SWEEEEET).

The setup went very smooth, however the picture on this HDTV out the box was cranked too high for my taste. Trying to adjust the settings on my own was a real challenge with so many options that the picture settings allows. I just finally ended up going online to [...] and punched in a great starter picture setting. The setting gave my TV picture that beautiful image "Pop" after some personal tweaking of course.

The remote was not very comfortable to hold unless I was typing on the Qwerty keypad. The keypad is responsive, even though the buttons are a bit stiff, but it's new so I'm sure over time they will soften somewhat. The bluetooth signal is very strong and the Apps fuction works very well. The video / movie streaming via VUDU was very good with minimal buffering using AT&T Elite DSL service.

Ok.. Let me break this review down into Pro's and Cons.

Pro's:

Brilliant packaging! A well thought out and consumer friendly packaging that's second to none that I've seen. It makes shipping TV's like these so much easier and safer for both retailer and consumer.

Simple set up. The TV pretty much walked me through setting up the cable connection and WiFi internet.

The remote control is responsive most of the time and the Blue-tooth works well with this TV. I can't comment on how well it works with other devices because I only used it on the Vizio TV exclusively.

The Vizio Apps is why I purchased this HDTV and they performed wonderfully. Once you've streamed movies wireless via Netflix and Vudu you will not want to watch rentals any other way (except in Blue Ray). Nice job Vizio! Side note: Vudu has more HD and HDX movies than Netflix.

There's plenty of picture settings (can be a bit overwhelming from some).
Picture is bright crisp, clear and almost flawless once the picture settings are set just right.

The built in HD tuner pulled in so many of HD & SD channels! I'm just running basic cable to the back of the TV without a box. I was really surprised that no one mentioned in their review how receptive the Vizio tuners are. Really impressive!

The TV sound is acceptable and much better than most this size, but it's no home theater either.

Price and value! You can't beat the amount of features you get on this TV for the price ....it's unmatched period. !

Now the Cons:

The TV styling is bland and cheesy. (The "Java" bezel should have been used for this TV, but in a solid black or solid gray color)

The remote is very chunky and does not feel comfortable unless you're typing on the Qwerty keypad.

All (3) USB ports are disabled. That's unacceptable and could be a deal breaker until it is resolved. I would have liked one USB to have been functional, but all three is just terrible.

The Vizio logo is always on. Stand-by color is orange (off mode). Power on color is bright white (On mode). There's no setting to turn the logo light off. It's my understanding that this is common on all Vizio sets but the end user should have a way to turn it off if they want to.

TV locked up a few times requiring me to unplug it from the wall and reboot. This happened while cycling through the TV menu settings twice and while watching a TV show once on cable.

The TV also makes a subtle clicking / popping sound 20 to 30 seconds after it has been powered off. I don't no why nor have I contacted Vizio to find out why. Like I said it's very subtle not annoying.

There was also a problem with the TV remembering custom settings after changing channels or turning the TV off and on. That problem seems to have subsided now (possibly via automatic firmware update).

The confusing model numbers. I made a mistake and ordered the Tru-LED model without Vizio Apps by mistake because of the similarity of the model numbers. Fortunately, I was able to catch my mistake in time before the incorrect TV had shipped out to me.

Overall:

I would recommend this TV for the price. I believe this TV could serve as a new beginning (if you will) for the Vizio brand, but only time and reliability will tell. I truly hope Vizio embraces this opportunity to push forward and produce quality HDTV products that can garner a new respect for the Vizio brand. Let's hope so!

Sony Bravia EX700 Series 52-Inch LED HDTV, Black

Sony Bravia EX700 Series 52-Inch LED HDTV, Black Review

I have had this TV for about 2 weeks and am still stunned by its beautiful picture. The colors are rich and deep and in HD everything is so crisp. This TV is in my Family Room Set-up which includes Pioneer Elite SC-25 receiver, LG Blu-Ray, Boston Accoustics center and surround speakers.

Pros:
1. Picture (as mentioned above). Although it is close, the picture is better than my 46" Samsung LED-LCD that I have in the bedroom. Colors are warmer and image is just as crisp if not more so even though the screen is bigger. Images from the Blu-Ray are truly stunning

2. Network connectivity. A wireless dongle was included with my set. However, I have hardwired to my LAN so I can't comment on the wireless capabilities. Hooking up to the network was seemless and streaming from a computer on my network was effortless with no hiccups. I haven't streamed HD video yet, so I can't comment.

3. Cabinet. The screen is surrounded by a beautiful high gloss black cabinet. Probably will be a fingerprint and dust magnet. But the design is great.

4. Low energy consumption that all LED's enjoy

Cons:
1. Base. I really didn't care for the base. So much so that I mounted instead my media center so I wouldn't have to use it.

2. Slow to reflect channel changes when the next channel had a different resolution. Was able to fix to setting cable box to 1080i output only. Channel delay down to less than half a second vs. 2-3 seconds when changing from a 720p channel to a 1080i channel.

3. SD picture nothing to write home about.

I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend this set.

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46SV670U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46SV670U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black Review

After sniffing out specs on new HDTVs we went to the store to try to compare screens (mostly between the Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia, and Samsung - in that order.) In the end we decided this one had the best overall brightness and clarity. (This wasn't so easy to determine though because all of the stores feed crappy (relatively), and varying signals into the TVs so that it is difficult if not impossible to compare them. Why? I don't know.)

After using this TV for a month, I'm still very happy with it. Compare that to my experience with our previous HDTV, a DLP type Samsung. This TV starts fast (relatively) and the sound is good even from the built-in speakers. I'm much, much happier with the screen and general response time. Switching channels, turning on, turning off; these may sound like no-brainers but the Samsung DLP would sometimes take over a minute to start, almost as long shutting off, and even took tens of seconds on occasion to switch channels. Also this TV uses about 50% less power than the DLP and was about as low-power as anything in this size of TV we found (because of the LED backlighting it uses less lighting power.)

The main flaw with the Samsung came when it failed completely (green screen of death) after only a little more than two years of use. The problem appeared to be on the board that controls TV signal decoding. Because that problem is possible with any display tech, I'll just have to wait and see if this TV turns out to be more reliable/long lasting. For now it is an order of magnitude improvement over the Samsung DLP, and appeared to have better image quality than the current competition.

Some drawbacks that keep it from perfect scores:
1) There is a border around the screen several inches wide. Obviously the closer to edge-to-edge screen the better since the rest is just distracting away from the image.
2) (a complete surprise!) there is only one coaxial input on the TV. We have been using analog cable and HD over the antennae (airwave broadcast) for years. With this TV, it took us a while to figure out that we could still do this by buying a coaxial switch. Unfortunately that means that to switch from Antennae to Cable requires flipping the manual switch and then changing a setting from the remote control menu. This is tiresome so we have all but abandoned the cable channels completely (on this TV anyway.)

Non-issues: some complain that this TV is too thick (mostly compared to the Samsung model.) We don't wall mount, so for us this is a complete non-issue as you can't tell how thin it is in the entertainment stand. I suppose others might prefer the svelte look of the Samsung but there is something to be said about people who would buy a TV for the look of the case over the look of the TV image it produces (and the reliability of the product too given my previous experience with Samsung TVs.)

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black Review

I consider myself a tech savvy. I've been following consumer TV lineups and technology for months. from samsung to vizio, yes I checked them all out! This Toshiba does it the best in its class with solid picture quality and performance. if you are looking for an eye candy go get a samsung, but if you want performance in all aspects then this TV is for you.

I bought this set from amazon and had it for about 2 weeks now. The picture is amazing and the blacks are inky, deepest I've seen around! video processing is outstanding, handles motion really well. This LED TV delivers a great cinema-like experience.

Pros:

-Stylish single glass design
-Deepest inky blacks - Kuro like
-superior video processing - nicely removes judder and blur without adding video-game look
-amazing screen uniformity
-packed with pro-settings and tweaking menus, graphs, ambient light sensor and auto brightness feature
-Local dimming in its best
-no blooming, clouding, ghosting or flashing issues (known issues with LCDs)
-details in gray-black tones visible
-great value

cons:

-reflective screen (helps to achieve better contrast but could be an issue if you have a lot of windows)
-heavy

I'm very happy I returned my samsung LED for this unit. samsung LEDs (6000, 7000 and 8000 series) suffer from screen uniformity issues!
Buy this unit and you won't be sorry.

Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

So I researched getting a 50in tv for months. After looking what seemed like forever I came across this one at a great price. Was delivered in great shape and I put it on the wall immeditely. Very easy to configure and the VieraCast features are cool. Watched a movie on the Amazon Video ON Demand and it was flawless.

Now to the other side.

Certain bass tones create a buzzing sound at all volumes.

Troubleshot quite a bit and tried to chat with support. DON'T BOTHER 5 different times over 10 days and they never answered.

Called support and waited for over 20 minutes 3 different times and finally hung up. Called support again waited over 30 minutes finally got someone...troubleshooting was pointless. Scheduled a tech to come out and they replaced the main board which contains all of the video and audio connections for the tv.

Did not resolve the problem. I went in and started messing with it again and found that if I turn off Bass Boost it resolves the problem immediately.

Moral of the story. Don't put Bass Boost on a tv who's speakers can't handle it.
